September 2010
Greetings!
Wow! What a summer! A lot has been happening at the gun club as of late. With the fall weather coming (we hope), there is no better time than now to get out to the club and knock some rust of your shooting habits before you get in the field. This newsletter is going to be a little long because we have so much going on. Be sure to RSVP to the Annual Dinner (see article below) to get your two free dink tickets. Plus it helps us with the ordering food.
Edward Gross Memorial Scratch Tournament
The 1st Annual Edward Gross Memorial Scratch Tournament was wrapped up in August and it was a huge success. We ended with 16 teams shooting for a total prize pool of $570.00. We did a bracket tournament with eight teams on each side and the final match came down to Keith Moore and Paul McCue vs Ben Blackston and Kendall Smith. Keith and Paul prevailed as the champions of the 1st Annual tournament and left with the hefty prize money. Great shooting by both of these teams as well as the rest of the shooters.
Also, great job by Jeff Terrace in getting this event of the ground. It took a lot of work. Thank You Jeff.
Be on the look out for the 2nd Annual Tournament in the spring of 2011.
2010 Zone Four Skeet Championship
"Shooting the Shot"
Well, it's been a great year for Forest City Gun Club. Our skeet season is coming to an end. We have hosted two (2) skeet tournaments this year. The Georgia State Shoot and the zone 4 shoot. These shoots have been the first major shoots since 2006. We had approximately 440 shooters total at these events.
At the state shoot we also had the state competition for the SCTP (Scholastic Clay Target Program). This is a program designed to give youth a positive experience in a sport while being a member of a team. At the same time it introduces youth into shooting in a safe sporting manner.
We also have got our rv park up and running thanks to Charlie Upchurch, Charlie Lair and a lot of other people that helped get this ready in time for these shoots. It was a big hit with the shooters. For the zone 4 shoot we had a total of 24 motor home coaches and 12 rv campers. I think this was a great addition to FCGC. It allows people coming from greater distances to stay on location for these events which may last several days. Thanks guys for never giving up!
It has also been our first major shoot since the completion of the clubhouse and pro-shop. Wow was everyone impressed with our facility. The grounds looked great thanks to chris and keith and a lot of hard work. I was told by many people at these shoots that FCGC never looked so good and is the best gun club anywhere!
For the state and zone shoots fcgc provided a low-country boil for all participants on the saturday night of the event. Bubba (Noel) Wright headed this up with a host of helpers and did they ever do a marvelous job. Thanks for all you do Bubba for this gun club.
No shoot would ever go on without the people to load the houses and do all the things that have to been done to keep everything moving. The trappers did a great job in a very professional manner. I spoke with several of the referees and they were very impressed with the job they did. Thanks guys keep up the great work!!!
To put on a shoot of this size it takes a lot of people. To help park cars pick-up food and help with so many things in a (3) day event to make it a success.
I would like to thank these people for all of their help and hard work, that without them this would never have happened.
Chris Cantrell, Keith and Teresa Moore, Billy and Marie Griffin, Dexter Elliot, Jeff Terrace, Bubba Wright, Charlie and Dustin Lair, Bill and Trisha McNeal, Mac Salter (great lunches), Kelly Vick, Kendall and Jeana Smith, Lindsey Adams, Dan Degood, Bo Beasley, Stan Simpson, Ray Nickens, Brad Hunnings and his son. I know that I may have missed someone but i would like thank each of you for doing a great job and supporting these events for fcgc.
Last but not least I would like to thank the officers and board members who work for this gun club very hard to improve and keep this gun club the best. Thanks for all you do.
For those of you who don't regularly shoot skeet this was lot of fun and we would like to invite anyone interested in getting involved in any of our events to contact chris or myself.
We are looking forward to the 2011 season at Forest City as being the very best year of shooting. We are working on hosting sporting clay events as well as trap and skeet. Come out enjoy all that Forest City Gun Club has to offer.
Thanks
Jackie Allmond - Skeet Chairman

2010 Club Championship
2010 Club Championship
Saturday September 25th
The 2010 Club Championship will be held on Saturday September 25th. The event is only open to members in good standing. The event format is as follows (all shot in one day) - 50 skeet targets, 50 trap targets (16 yard line), 50 dove tower targets (positions decided by FCGC) and 50 5-stand targets. The "Club Champion" is decided by the High Over All score of the combined events. However, you do not have to shoot all the events to participate. If skeet is your game, you can be the "Skeet Club Champion" or same thing with any of the other events. The free parking space is decided by the High Over All score. So please come out and participate, even if you don't shoot all of the events. You can come out any time on the 25th and participate. If you are shooting the full venue, we highly recommend you start shooting in the morning. Good Luck To All Competitors. I know last years champ, John Metz, does not want to give up his parking spot.
